School project a huge success!

In September 2009 Chippenham Futsal Club approached the Wiltshire County FA (WCFA) to discuss the possibility of forging school/club links with the schools in Chippenham. Through the efforts of Bev Maull (WCFA) and Laura Phillips of the Mid-Wilts School Sports Partnership (MWSS), a meeting was arranged with teachers from Abbeyfield, Hardenhuish and Sheldon.
The funding from the WCFA allowed Chippenham Futsal Club to deliver six futsal sessions into each school between October and December to Year 10s & Year 11s. These sessions were delivered by Chippenham & England futsal captain, Luke Ballinger.
These sessions generated a fantastic response with almost 50 boys attending the sessions each week. With this in mind, Chippenham Futsal Club organised an inter-school tournament at the @Futsal venue in Swindon on December 8th 2009, with generous funding from the MWSSP. Each school entered two teams and played group matches before Hardenhuish A and Sheldon A, as group winners, played-off in the final. A tight game was finally won on penalties by Hardenhuish A, after the teams were tied 1-1 after extra time. Following on from this project, Chippenham Futsal Club will be forming an U16s squad to compete in tournaments during 2010.
